Let It Go

When I get home from grocery shopping, I try to carry as many bags as I can into the house at one time. I gather bag after bag into my hands and I make my way to the door. Once I get to the door with my hands full, I put the bags on the ground so my hands will be free to turn the door knob. Only after I let go of the bags can I open and walk through the door.

Our progress in life works the same way. We can only move forward when we “let go” of certain things. Sometimes it’s a grudge against someone who’s done us wrong. Sometimes it’s an old bad habit. Sometimes it can even be someone we consider a friend.

As men, we must concern ourselves with progress. We should always look for ways to advance ourselves and become better, but to reach that next level we have to let some things go. In order to go through the door of improvement, we have to put down that nasty habit of becoming violent when we can’t have our way. We have to put down the hate that we carry for people who have done us wrong. We even have to put down some friends that try to discourage us from walking through the door. Even some things we may think are good will have to be let go. Imagine holding a tight grip on a $100 bill. What would you have to do for me to give you $1,000? You’d have to LET GO of that $100!

There are many other things we may have to let go to move forward. It’s a part of life. Don’t let the bags you’re carrying prevent you from walking through that door. Put them down, step through that door, and into your future!
